Calatrava in Toronto

By Kam

The Allen Lambert Galleria, a 6 storey pedestrian avenue designed by Santiago Calatrava in Toronto is the only work by Calatrava that I have seen personally. It is a real architecture, a combination of art and technology. Its organic structure does remind me of trees and skeletons. The cathedral-like space is just amazing.

Walked through accidentally tonight and thought of Calatrava immediately - and looked up when I got back to room. Breathtaking space...

I had an opportunity to work on this project and I have ever since admired Calatrava’ work. I’ve just returned form Valencia, Spin, Calatrava’s home town, where recent work on the City of Arts and Sciences is is continuing to be testament of his talent.

Was this an add on to the original buildings later on? or was it built while TD Tower was going up?

Hi Kam,

I'm also an architect in Birmingham/Lathrup Village. I saw your hub about Calatrava while I was searching for it's location in Toronto. We're going to Toronto, Montreal & Quebec City in a few days, so I'm glad to have read your Hub. Your travels around the world are extensive and vital to an architect. Keep it up. Maybe we can compare notes someday.
