Shek Wu Hui - Sheung Shui, Hong Kong
64Shek Wu Hui was originally a small town in Sheung Shui 100 years ago. It emerged as the commercial center of Sheung Shui when Hong Kong was rapidly developing in 1930s. The streets were laid out in grids and buildings were placed very regularly. There is a park on the west side and a village on the northwest. The vernacular buildings are mainly Shop Houses built in the 40s. They were built with reinforced concrete with all kinds of geometric shape.
The only round building in town
Lots of cantilever to maximize space on top
Rich texture
This one has a sharp angle
They grow by addition
A cooling tower
A fake balcony on top
A sharp contrast with the modern highrise
Would it be the future? Putting up new additions on the existing ones
